I know that I have been erratic in posting but I promise to post soon about two different thoughts that I have been reading about lately. 1. Does media objectify and denigrate men as much as it does to women and in what ways? 2. The prevalence of sexual objectification in media: Is it appropriate, and does it have negative or positive effects on society?
Please post your ideas for the question of the day.
This is my first post on your questions... Cause I didn't know you had them! :) I think that both men and women are definately treated poorly in media. A manly man is an idiot and a man who is not "manly" is of course gay. I have often spoken of the demasculinization of men throughout society. It seems like the desire to be successful and have a family has become less exceptable to the much more desired party boy, no responsibilities life style.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the second question, it seems that sex drugs and rock and roll sale, but it is unrealistic in our lives. Women are definately objectified in the media, but just look at the sold out theaters of women going to see the movie magic mike, and I think we can agree that men are objectified as well. The media gives us unrealist expectations and then we forget to see the true beauty within. There are many very atractive non body building/skinny modeling men in the world, and women are meant to be all different shapes and sizes that's what makes us beautiful!
